OK, it's a bit clearer now. Sorry to seem so cautious, but in this era of Internet scams it's reasonably understandable, I think...

Please make sure that the check can be cashed into a French bank, nevertheless. It may be only be possible to make a money transfer from bank to bank.

I understand that you will send details, address of solicitors and so forth with the check.

Best regards,

Ted Tunnicliffe.

Hello,

Good to hear from you and l want to clarify you on this properly, you are not going to have the €2,500 all to yourself please what the mail is saying is that you will receive the amount of €2,500 worth of cheque which you will have to cash at the bank then after you have cashed the money then deduct 20% of the money which is €500 as an upfront payment while you send the balance of the 80% of €2,000 to the solicitors for the legal documentation and also some part will go to the agents for your flight ticket and hotel reservation when you come to london for your photo shot further more you will be paid your last bill of 5,000pounds for the advert.please remember to let us know when you get the cheque payment for more instructions, thanks and hope to do business with you soon

I have received the mail. I still have great difficulty in believing that I have just earned - apparently - 2500€ for ... nothing.
I have no agent, since I am an independent musician. Therefore I don't quite see what I can do about it.
Maybe you would like to send me some kind of proof that you have "used my photo for a publicity billboard..."
Best regards,
Ted Tunnicliffe.

Hello,

This is to inform you that €2,500 cheque was posted to your address today for BILLBOARD ADVERT, it should be delivered to your address on FRIDAY by normal post. It is coming with letter on instruction on what to do...

NOTE:

1) BEFORE GOING TO YOUR BANK MAKE SURE YOU SIGN AT THE LINE ON TOP OF YOUR NAME ON THE CHECKS BEFORE YOU TAKE IT TO YOUR BANK FOR CASHING.

2) WHEN YOU GET TO YOUR BANK YOU WILL SIGN AGAIN ON THE LINE BELOW YOUR NAME AND WRITE THE DATE IN FRONT OF YOUR BANKER THAT WILL CASH THE CHECKS FOR YOU.

You will deduct 20% which is €500 as an upfront payment for you and you will send €2,000 to your appointed agent for LEGAL FEE and SIGN UP FEE...

Please, acknowledge that you received this email...

Many thanks.

Good Day
It would appear that i have been duped!!!! Please see attachments and let me know what I can do now.
I received an sms stating that i had won in a blackberry promo. Had to buy a R180.00 MTN voucher to activate my "ticket:", and further pay in R2910.00 for "insurance" to have this money paid into my bank account. The "insurance" was paid into the following acount:
Y. Thomaza
FNB
Account Number: 62309068379
The gentleman who has been phoning me is Joe on cell number:
0835391737
I insisted that I receive written confirmation that I had won in a legal manner and also needed a letter from their bank as to why a further R5000.00 needed to be paid in before I could receive my winnings.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Karen

The way that these guys work is that they send you a cheque that you faithfully deposit into your bank account, you then withdraw the amount that they say is for an upfront payment/admin fee. The cheque bounces and you are out of pocket for any amount that you have withdrawn from your bank account.

You also do not have to pay for any prize upfront. They start by asking for R5000 and then request a further sum of money as the admin costs have increased and that they have to pay for the courier, etc. etc. They will continue in this way until you stop payments and realise that you have been duped. Please do not respond to this type of sms / email

I just received an SMS on my MTN phone that says, verbatim, "Congratulation your phone number has won R196,000. In BLACKBERRY 2012 GLOBAL PROMO. Your Ref No. is C14. Cal James on +27732307277 to claim your prize. Congrats!"

Obvious scam is obvious. What I want to know is how do they get my number? I think even the means by which my number was obtained for this blatant thuggery was nefarious.
